KUSA Ch 9 Denver, CO

So KUSA calls – we need to make it to the station by 4:30am for a 5 am live remote. Gregarious news staff, but Its not natural to stand in a freezing parking lot before dawn having someone shouting at you through an earpiece. What a weird way to make a living.

What a pleasant surprise! The crowds were a little smaller but the people were very friendly, knew their zip codes and were appreciative. Station personnel were on hand to answer viewer questions and employees from Ulitmate Electronics mentioned all the problems they were having with the existing line of antennas they carried. Estimating that the return rates on some of their antenna models was over 70%!

Denver has been a bit tricky for DTV reception, for years nearby residents have been fighting the erection of the new digital transmitting towers on Lookout Mountain. It literally took an act of Congress to get the new tower approved. Unfortunately it will be a little shorter and may not have the effective range as was originally intended. Station engineers say that reception due west of Denver will have a harder time picking up the signals after the transition due to terrain and the way the new transmitters will orient their signals. The good news is KUSA will Increase its radiated power several fold after the transition so that should fix a lot of issues people may be having in receiving the local NBC affiliate.
