Free TV, Be My Valentine

Ahhh, Valentine’s Day. A day of romance, love, and spending too much money on chocolates, diamonds, and who knows what else. Seriously, have you looked to see how much you’re spending on that lovey-dovey Hallmark card? It’s outrageous! On the bright side, when you’re  a cord cutter, you have the money to spare. You can spend it however you like, but we have a little suggestion.

This year, spend Valentine’s Day with your one true love. The one that will never take you for granted, hurt you, make you sad or vulnerable. That’s right, we’re talking about your ClearStream TV antenna. The  purest love you  will ever find. Here are just a few reasons why your antenna is your #1 this Valentine’s Day:

  • Your antenna saves you nearly $1440 a YEAR.
  • Crystal clear, beautiful, high definition TV.
  • No monthly fee, no monthly upcharges, no crappy customer service.
  • Always there for you. Rain or shine.
  • Won’t talk back.
  • No drama.
  • You don’t have to hang out with their friends (seriously, they’re the WORST.)
  • You won’t have to ask, “what do you want for dinner? No, seriously, WHAT DO YOU WANT?!

Your freedom. The ClearStream HDTV antennas give you the freedom you desire.

That sounds like a romance for the books, right? This could be you. Cut the cord, celebrate Valentine’s Day with a pocket full of cash and your favorite network TV shows.

If you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with your DTV antenna, be sure to share pictures with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Match, or whatever social media platform you fancy, using #lovemyantenna.

In closing, here is a love note you can use this year, and no, we won’t charge you (because we LOVE you.)

Roses are red,
Violets are blue.
Cut the cord this Valentine’s Day,
If you know what’s good for you.

(We’re no Shakespeare, but that’s pretty good!)

Show Me St. Louis and SHOW ME SOME ANTENNAS!

As a St. Louis company, our community is very important to us. Antennas Direct President and Founder, Richard Schneider, was born and raised in St. Louis. He went to high school here, attended college at Mizzou, and got married and is raising a family right here. So receiving some media attention from our local NBC affiliate, KSDK News Channel 5‘s Show Me St. Louis, was an awesome feeling.

Jimmy V. from Show Me St. Louis came out to our office for the afternoon and we gave him a tour of where the magic happens. We showed him our customer service center, 3D printer where we do mock up antenna samples and our tech lab where we do testing and analytics.

Richard was a home theater enthusiast who started making antennas in his garage as a hobby for his family and friends. Eventually it got to the point that he had orders coming in from all over the United States and he knew if he wanted to keep his wife happy, he needed to take this business out of his house. That’s when Antennas Direct really got started! Since 2003, our sales have grown, as have our team.

Check out the segment to learn more about how we got started and meet some of our Antennas Direct and get a little MTV Cribs style tour of our office. Thanks to Show Me St. Louis and KSDK for showing us some love and helping a local business to spread our message.

Cord Cutters Guide to Watching the 2017 Big Game

We don’t care who you are or what you’re into, we know that you plan to watch the Super Bowl. Whether you’re the NFL’s biggest fan or have a pure hatred for football, you’ll be watching either for the action or for the commercials. And this year will be an epic showdown between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons! The Falcons have never won a Super Bowl, so you know they are going to fight hard for that Lombardi trophy. The Patriots have Four Super Bowl wins under their belts, are they going to add a fifth to their collection?

What many people don’t realize is that you can still watch the Super Bowl, even without cable! That’s right ladies and gentlemen. You don’t have to miss a moment of the action because you have an antenna (or at least, you should. And if you don’t yet, jump on it and purchase yours before the Big Game. See below for our Big Game Discount.)

The NFL has a contract with CBS, FOX and NBC to rotate broadcasting the Super Bowl until 2023. This is awesome news for cord cutters, meaning we will have access to the Big Game for FREE guaranteed for another 6 years at least. The game this year will be aired Sunday, February 5th on FOX, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30pm ET, coming to you live from NRP Stadium in Houston, TX.

Now, if you’re not a football fan, you might be in for the Halftime Show. It looks like we’ll be in for a treat, Lady Gaga is headlining the Pepsi Halftime Show, which means we have absolutely no clue what to expect. That’s the kind of show we like.

Now that you know the details of when and where to watch the Big Game, we can discuss the logistics of a good party. We can narrow it down to 4 words: beer, junk food and friends. That’s all you need to throw a successful party. And as a cord cutter, you have extra money in your pocket to get the best snacks (hello Velveeta, wings, pizza and the splurge beer).

In case you haven’t entered our Big Game Giveaway, don’t miss out! You can enter HERE and take 25% off your order until January 30th using the coupon code SUPER25.

And finally, don’t forget to invite us to your party. We know how to throw down and might bring our famous spinach artichoke dip.

How Cord Cutting Can Accomplish ALL of Your New Year’s Resolutions

Year after year we do it. We all make New Year’s Resolutions. We might not have any intentions of actually upholding these resolutions, but we make them.

Here are just a few of the top New Year’s resolutions:

  • Get healthy/lose weight/get fit
  • Learn new hobbies
  • Live life to the fullest
  • Spend less, save more

Those are all great and lovely, especially if you commit to them and they happen. But you know what? As a cord cutter, you can do all of those things, meaning you are more likely to follow through and be successful. Now before you click away like “of course, here you are pushing cord cutting yet again”, let us explain.

Let’s first tackle getting healthy, losing weight and getting fit. If you have a Roku, you’ve probably seen that you can download tons of apps and streaming channels. But did you know that there is a whole category of health and fitness? You can find hundreds of workout videos ranging from cardio, stretching, AB workouts, Yoga, Pilates, and so much more. And they’re free! You don’t have to spend tons of $$ on a monthly gym membership that, let’s face it, usually sits in your wallet collecting dust and never gets used. (We’ve all been there, so we’re not judging.)

They also have great cooking videos and recipes if you’re looking to eat a little healthier (we would say better, but come on, sometimes consuming a burger just needs to happen) in the New Year. Easy and very little research, that’s what we like!

Learning new hobbies is always a popular resolution. Maybe you’d like to get more flexible and become a Yogi. Looking to be less stressed and find ways to better manage stress? There are plenty of meditation channels. Want to wow your significant other with some new massage skills? Yup, there’s a channel for that. Tai Chi? There’s a channel for that as well. There’s something for everyone to check off that new body hobby.

And finally, spending less and saving more. This is often a goal for folks, even if it’s not a New Year’s Resolution. What’s the best part? All of these above resolutions can be accomplished for free.  Therefore, you ARE living life to the fullest. You have nothing holding you back, you have the money, security, and you’ll feel good and look great. In a study conducted by us, not at all scientifically, we found that cord cutters are on average, 97% more better looking, happier and more successful than non-cord cutters. And as a cord cutter, you are saving on average $100 a month with an HDTV Antenna. 2017 is going to be the year of the cord cutters. Mark our words. TV antennas are taking over.

Cable Companies Rule the Most Hated Companies List

Normally when a company wins an award or earns a ranking on a list, it’s a good thing. Well, this is a list we look forward to each year, and not because we will ever see our name on the list, but because we get to see what we preach in writing.

CABLE COMPANIES ARE THE WORST! And we have proof!

We’ve said this for years; and 24/7 Wall Street conducted a survey and released their list this week, and not one, not two, but THREE cable/satellite companies made the list.

Congratulations to Comcast (1st place), Dish (8th place) and Charter (12th place) for this major award!

It won’t be a surprise to most Americans to see that these three companies made the list. We’ve all, at some point, experienced their abuse, the poor customer service, the lies, and the price hikes.

24/7 Wall Street reviewed a variety of metrics on customer service, employee satisfaction and financial performance to determine the rankings of these companies. If you took a poll of the calls we receive in our Antennas Direct call center from customers ready to cut the cord, we guarantee that 98.3% (very specific number) would say that the reason they are cutting the cord is because they can no longer take the cruelty of the cable company. Saving hundreds of dollars is just a super sweet bonus.

We wish Comcast, Dish and Charter best of luck this year and hope to see them on the list again for 2017!

How Cord Cutters Can Watch the NFL Playoffs

As the NFL Playoffs come around once more, the biggest question for some is how they can watch the games without cable. Luckily, due to the broadcast partners of the NFL, it’s really not that hard. You don’t need to use any expensive or elaborate services, all you need is an antenna.

Heading into the playoffs, the Cowboys and Patriots are both big favorites to pull off a Super Bowl victory. The Patriots will likely have an easier road in the AFC that has several injury plagued playoff teams. On the NFC side, the Cowboys will have an incredibly difficult path to a Super Bowl appearance. Teams like the Packers, Seahawks, Falcons, and even the Lions have all proved they can play and beat top-caliber teams.

How to Watch TV with an Antenna

The antenna will be your critical tool to watch the NFL playoffs live without cable. This is because it can pick up a majority of the channels broadcast postseason games, just like it did during the regular season. Channels like CBS and FOX are some of the main providers of NFL games all year long and in the playoffs NBC and ABC have broadcast rights as well.

All of the channels the antenna receives can be watched in high-definition sound and picture quality. It has been proven it’s even better than anything you’ll see   on cable.   Another thing to note is the reception you’ll receive with and HDTV  antenna. Check out the reception in your area here, but you should also know that you’ll receive better reception with a high-performance TV antenna. You can learn more about choosing the best antenna for your area here.

While the antenna will get you most of the games, it won’t deliver games on ESPN. For that, you’ll need a service like Sling TV or DIRECTV NOW. These would fill out your setup and help you watch every single game.

Stream the Games with an Antenna

Even though you have an antenna hooked up to your TV, there is still a way to stream it on your phone, computer, or tablet. This is possible through an over-the-air DVR like the Tablo within the US and Canada. .

Tablo works connecting it to your home network or anywhere you you have internet  and the TV antenna. This, in turn, allows it send whatever the TV antenna is receiving to the device of your choosing. It’s perfect for someone who wants to watch the game live, but can’t make it to their TV in time.

Another option for someone who can’t make it home in time for the game is using the DVR features. It’s possible to record any of the games received by your TV antenna to watch later at your convenience. This is really helpful during the playoffs when you have games on both Saturdays and Sundays.

Clearly you won’t have to jump through any hoops to watch these games without cable. So, get your high-performance HDTV antenna ready and enjoy watching all these great games!

Let Us Blow Your Mind: You Can Get HOW MANY Channels With an Antenna?

When people think of over-the-air TV station, they probably picture the typical culprits (CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS), but did you know that there are subchannels? I know, I know, this sounds like crazy talk and a lot of effort, but that’s really not the case. In 2016 alone, 130 new over-the-air stations launched across the United States.

How do you get them? If you’re still tied down by cable or satellite, you are missing out on these channels. You can only access them with a TV antenna. Then, when you scan from channels, you’ll see that you have more than just 2, 4, 5…etc., you have 2.1, 2.2., 2.3, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3… and so on and so forth. Hidden stations, just waiting for you to discover them!

So what are these subchannels? To be honest, some of them are hits and some of them are misses (I don’t think we really need that many home shopping channels), but you can find some real gems. Be sure to scan for new stations that might pop up every few months or you might be missing out on these kickass shows.

Here are just a few of the magical subchannels you can get with an antenna, and only with an antenna.

GRIT:
GRIT calls themselves “Television with Backbone”. If you’re a lover of westerns, action movies, adventure TV shows and ultimate badassery. Walker, Texas Ranger, anything Clint Eastwood, Laramie, High Noon, and so much more can be found on this channel. You’ll feel even more awesome after watching a little GRIT.

BOUNCE:
BOUNCE is the first 24/7 digital multicast broadcast network created to target African Americans. It features a mix of original programming created for BOUNCE as well as classic TV shows geared toward African Americans between 25 and 54 years old. In March 2016, the premier of their new primetime soap “Saints & Sinners” took in 1.3 million viewers, making it Bounce TV’s most-watched program to date.

GETTV:
This channel features a mix of classic television programs and feature films, primarily movies prior to 1980 and made-for-TV movies. Some of the popular shows you’ll find here are the Merv Griffin Show, In the Heat of the Night, The Jeff Foxworthy Show, The Bill Engvall Show, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir and much more.

ThisTV:
“This is Your Movie Network, It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This”. That’s a strong slogan, but we have to agree. This channel focuses on movies and broadcasts 24 hours a day, meaning no matter what you’re doing, you can watch an excellent movie. The film roster doesn’t focus on any specific genres, they dabble in a little bit of everything, meaning you’re in for a treat every time you turn on ThisTV.

COMET:
This is the sci-fi lovers dream channel. COMET focuses on science fiction, supernatural, horror, adventure and fantasy movies and TV shows. You’ll find movies like the Poltergeist, and TV shows such as Dead Like Me, Jeremiah, Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot, Mystery Science Theater 3000 and The Outer Limits.

COZI TV:
This is a hot channel for your favorite classic TV shows including Columbo, Frasier, Little House on the Prairie, Quincy M.E., Baywatch, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Knight Rider, The Munsters and Starsky & Hutch. You’ll find yourself sitting in front of the TV for hours reliving memories while watching these classics. “Watch Comet and Space Out”.

Antenna TV:
“TV How It Was Meant to Be!”
As strong supporters of Free TV, this is how we think TV should be! You’ll find some of your favorite old TV shows such as: Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie, Family Ties, The Jeffersons, All in the Family. They have some exciting shows coming in 2017 including: Becker, Head of the Class, Alice, Growing Pains and My Two Dads.

Escape:
Escape is the sister station to GRIT. This network is targeted at women between 25-54 years old, featuring films the likes of Lifetime and Oxygen, true crime documentaries and a focus on crime drama and mystery genres. “Slip Away” with Escape. Sounds like a nice evening, right?

Now this is just a small sampling of the networks you can get with a TV antenna. To see what is available in your area, be sure to check out our Digital TV Station List HERE and you’ll be blown away.
